What is the Chinook Elementary PTSA?

The PTSA  (Parent-Teacher-Student-Association) (AKA PTA) is a private, non-profit organization of parents, teachers, students, and community members who strive to enrich and better the lives of the students. We are part of an organization that is organized at the local, state, and national level. The PTSA has a board which consists of a President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary who are parents, voted in by other parents, who serve to as volunteers to organize school activities and enrichment programs, school fundraisers, and school spirit. The Board is supported in these activities by the school staff and by numerous parent volunteers.

Why Join the PTSA?

By joining the Chinook Elementary PTSA, you will be joining a community that focuses on encouraging student achievement while fostering an enriched learning environment. Without memberships, we would not have the support of the State, and National PTA Association, which allows us to have the PTSA in our school. Without a PTSA at Chinook, students and teachers would miss out on many valuable resources, and experiences.

How does the PTSA support our school?

There are many ways the Chinook PTSA supports the school. From raising funds to assist teachers in purchasing classroom supplies, to creating reading programs such as Read N Lead to encourage literacy among the students, to coordinating volunteers to the teachers and office staff. We sponsor a variety of programs and projects including, but not limited to:

  • Read N Lead Program
  • Raz Kids Online Reading Tool
  • Library Books and Supplies
  • Electronics, and Computers
  • Teacher Grants
  • Choir Grants
  • Emergency and Safety Preparation
  • Teacher Appreciation Lunches
  • First Day Coffee
  • Welcome Back Social

All of which are possible through using funds that were raised through events and fundraisers during the year.

What does PTSA Membership cost? And why is there a cost?

Individual Memberships are $15 per year. Family Memberships (2 parents in same household) are $25 per year. Membership fees are annual and are good from October through to October. The Chinook PTSA only gets a small portion of the membership fee. The remainder is divided up to the PTSA associations on the State and National Level. We do not rely on the membership program as a fundraiser.

With your membership, you not only help contribute to your child’s success you receive discounts at Great Wolf Lodge and Fed Ex. On the National level you have access to discounts at companies such as Hertz, Staples, and Sylvan Learning. You also have access to the National and State PTSA websites. These sites contain parenting education, child advocacy information, and on-line learning tools.
